Filled with fun

So, to confess to a bit of a guilty pleasure, i quite enjoy playing Viva Pinata.

I originally played while bored one day, after it came with a set of free games included in my brother's new xbox360. And while its not the most challenging game, its quite good for passing time with easy objectives and a fairly open-ended goal. Ive quite liked creating themed gardens, attracting new pinatas, and finding new variants.

After having to delete my original game cause of needing to transfer my profile, i started a new game a few days ago and am already the highest level title you can earn. Admittedly, i have used spoilers from the internet as a bit of a guide, but its been quite fun getting there, even with a few frustrating moments when a pinata i needed got eaten when my back was turned.

So far, i have about 5 gardens and a little over half the in-game rewards, plus im about halfway to being about to create the unholy hybrid of swan and pig, the Pigxie. I figure it'll take me another few weeks to finish the game, and i'll be satisfied with it for another year or so.

Much Ado about Opera

Had a lovely day out at Circular Quay today (that's in Sydney, NSW, Australia), and got to go on a tour of the Opera House. Was rather interesting to hear about the trouble they went to build it (first of it's kind, the 'sails' presented engineering difficulties.)
I even got to see some of the australian ballet school practising in one of the theatres. one day i think i'll go see a performance there.

Because of the Commonwealth Games, i have to wait til Oct 20 to see more of Glee. :(

and i'm still waiting to see the rest of season 5 Supernatural. Aussie TV sucks sometimes when it comes to overseas series.

Tragically Beautiful, and Beautifully Tragic

Went and saw Wicked at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney last night, and it was quite excellent. Impressive set pieces, catchy music, and Burt Newton (The Wizard), Tim Campbell (Fiyero), and Lucy Durack (Glinda) were perfect in their roles.
I particularly liked Durack's extremely blonde Glinda. Her performance of Popular was the funniest part of the show. I also liked Campbell's performance.
All in all it was a very enjoyable night, and would have to rate as my 3rd favourite stage musical ive been to. Doesnt seem so impressive considering ive only seen 4, but it was still very much worth the cost of tickets and the long drive into the city.

Are Slytherins destined to be evil.
bamf, billy

Yeah, Slytherins are a nasty bunch in Harry Potter, at least, thats the stereotype. It does hold true for most of the Death Eaters, and Draco and his gang, but not all Slytherins were evil.

Severus was harsh, abrasive, and prejudiced, but he also deeply cared for Lily long after she had died, and was covertly working to bring about Voldie's downfall. Horace Slughorn was more concerned with his own comfort and connections than anything else, but he also returned to Hogwarts during the battle (along with many others, including no doubt those witches and wizards he had groomed in their school days.) And there was Regulus, who believed in blood purity and the superiority of wizards, but who ultimately disagreed with Voldemort and tried to undermine him.

a large part of the Slytherin's portayal is that Harry doesnt really interact with them beyond Draco's crowd, and the general prejudice against Slytherin's clearly encourages them to be insular and conceited. A large part of how the Syhterin's turn out is clearly a case of nurture honing nature. Take kids who have traits that make them ambitious and self-interested, and put them in with a group of people who encourage those traits.

As a case in point, look at Neville. His portrayal in the early books didnt really match the Gryffindor type, but being put in an environment where bravery and loyalty are encouraged, and look how he turned out.

Its been a while...

So we moved house on Saturday. Fun.

I am so sore now: me and the future-bro-in-law did most of the heavy lifting. Having a truck with an automatic lift made things so much easier-- and fun :) We got to goof around with it a bit too, riding sofas up on the lift, etc.

Its gonna take a while to get used to the new house, and its quite far away from my usual haunts. Oh well.

Next semester of uni is starting soon too. Hopefully i'll do better with these subjects than i did the last few.
